Our domestic sea transportation service stands on a solid foundation because it has been built up on many years of stable transportation of steel materials and products from Sumitomo Metal Industries, Ltd. A wide range of techniques have been developed in transportation of steel products for which a high level of expertise and quality in transportation is required. We also have a large fleet with many type of vessels. Also, by our centralized management of ship and cargo information on its online network, an efficient operation has been realized.
In addition, we are implementing many kinds of transportation services in order to make the customer feel safer when using these services, which includes our navigation management system that allows us to grasp the positional information at an hourly basis.
Sumitomo Metal Logistics Service Co. Ltd., which up until now has established a solid base of techniques to safely and reliably transport steel-related extra-heavy and extra-long cargoes, have begun to receive many requests for consultation on transportation of large-sized heavy cargoes.
Consequently, we began transporting numerous large-sized heavy articles like bridges, railways cars, cranes and plant equipments by using our wide-hatched domestic cargo vessels and large-sized deck barges.

In its course of pursuit and sophistication of its skills of transporting steel and steel related products, Sumitomo Metal Logistics Service Co., Ltd. have developed techniques of different kinds to realize efficient logistics while maintaining product quality. A technique called "unitized transportation" is one example. Also, for new domestic vessels, the hold of a vessel is given a box structure to be gentle on cargoes during transport. Another great feature is the installation of a large number of lashing pieces to enable stable lashing.
From earlier in its history, the company has actively implemented initiatives for securing safety in transportation, including improvement of its crisis management levels through "hiyarihatto." In 2003, with supervision by experts in the field, the company put together and published numerous cases of "hiyarihatto" that occurred with its fleet in the form of a book titled 「200 "hiyarihatto" and prevention of accidents」(compiled by Domestic Shipping Department of Sumutomo Metal Logistics Service Co., Ltd.), which also won the Sumita Maritime Encouragement Award. The safety initiative over many years is still in place in the form of a monthly safety meeting.
