The point of origin of our international intermodal transportation dates back about 20 years to 1987, when an overseas logistics operator took on the business of the past transportation of automobile parts by Sumitomo Metal Industries, Ltd. but they were rusted at the end of a long journey going up the Mississippi River. It is here that Sumitomo Metal Logistics Service Co., Ltd. came in with its full expertise in steel products and re-coordinated a transportation along this route. And it marked the beginning of our engagement in international intermodal transportation. Now we are offering this intermodal services to many customers in the world, including the route between Japan and the North America, together with warehousing/storage, inventory control, packaging, and insurance representation.

In our international intermodal services, we can pick up cargo regardless of its location in Japan, by using a service network extending all over the country. Also, with its operation bases in the United States (Chicago) and China (Shanghai), we can develop for each customer and cargo a plan of transportation to a designated port or city in the United States and China. If you have a need for a container or conventional vessels, we can arrange it. We can also accommodate cargoes of varied types from heavy cargoes like steel products to light weight products, even when it involves a special inland transportation. Experienced staff stationed locally follows up closely on it in Japanese. Also, because of our sound working relationship with shipping lines, we can secure space and provide services in a very stable manner.
